Here is what I've learned so far in the wedding planning process:
1. Prioritize: all of the details can be completely overwhelming and resources like the Knot provide extensively long (and overwhelming!) checklists of things to do. My advice would be to first outline the major things that need to be completed (venue, photographer, florist, dress... etc.) and work from that first.
2. Think about your budget: This goes hand in hand with prioritizing because you will naturally spend more on things you care more about. Martha Stewart has a typical budget break down here, but its good to keep in mind that you can alter your budget to suit what is most important to you about your wedding.
3. Pinterest is your best friend: one of the more difficult aspects of planning a wedding is narrowing down all of your ideas into one coherent theme. Pinterest is great for this because you can see all of your ideas in one place and then narrow down those ideas into a clear vision for what you want the day to look like. Here are some of my Pinterest finds:
4. Get inspired: there are seriously so many wedding ideas out there, which can make it hard to restrain yourself down to a consistent theme/look. But looking through wedding blogs is so fun, here are some of my favorites:
- Ruffled - the ultimate guide for vintage and DIY weddings.
- Style Me Pretty - tons of inspiration and they also have a great vendor list called "The Little Black Book." Unlike a lot of vendor lists, not just anyone gets featured in The Little Black Book, so if there is some element of the wedding that you are more particular about it is great to look through resources like this.
- Snippet and Ink - this blog features real weddings but also has a bunch of color inspiration boards, which are awesome if you're an indecisive color-lover like myself.
