put a ring on it

Do you ever try to remember what you were doing exactly one year ago? I've done that a lot lately because one year ago I was a senior at Carolina preparing to move to Denver with the Summit Church, and if you had told me then that in one year I would be engaged to Matt Metzger, who I'd probably only spoken to once at that point, I might have told you that you were crazy. I knew when I signed up to move across the country I was doing so without any promises of what life would be like here, and I decided to move not knowing where I would live, if I would be working or if I would be in graduate school (or doing both), etc. So I certainly didn't know that I would start dating someone, fall in love, and get engaged after being here for less than a year. Despite the fact that I didn't know these things, I am so glad they happened and am so thankful for God's sovereign, undeserved grace in both of our lives. I've known that I wanted to marry Matt for a while now, but we just made it official on Friday :)

And here's the short and sweet story of how it happened: Matt asked my dad if he could marry me over Christmas, and since they snuck off by themselves for about an hour I obviously knew what was happening, ever since then I have been waiting patiently (sometimes not so patiently) to be officially engaged to Matt. This past weekend my mom was visiting and we went to coffee with my friend Megan and my future sister-in-law Angela and Matt suddenly showed up... that's when I realized that everyone had been lying to me (which is totally justified in this case). We went on a walk through the highlands, which was very short because it was so so cold outside, and on that hill that overlooks our lovely city Matt asked if I would marry him (and I said yes!). After we went to dinner together (I can't remember where... I was too distracted by the shiny sparkly ring on my finger!), Matt surprised me with an engagement party with a bunch of our friends afterward.

There you have it, the very big, exciting update on my life. I would ask that you pray for Matt and I during this season, that we love each other well and prepare well for marriage.

So sparkly :)

Oh and Happy Valentine's Day!
