macrame planters [diy]
Recently I have become slightly obsessed with do-it-yourself projects. Sometimes I think I might be a little overly ambitious or overly confident of my creative abilities. Such was the case with the first round of this project. A few weeks ago I saw a post on Design*Sponge featuring these macramé planters made by artist Melanie Jelacic. This wasn't intended as a DIY post but my ambitious self decided that I would try my hand at macramé and make some for myself. At first it just looked like a mess of string hanging out with my cactus plants, but then I tried some new techniques and I think they turned out pretty good. Basically I just used braiding, knots, and the age-old friendship bracelet technique. Obviously they are way less impressive than Melanie Jelacic's but I think the concept is fairly consistent. I love the way they look in my windows, so much more interesting than just setting them on the sill.
